Hi everybody,
[Finally I am writing a blog.
]
Well, a friend suggested that I should write a book on CAT preparation. I thought that I can atleast write a blog and maybe help people achieve(not just score in CAT) what they want to. Maybe it will make a difference to someone’s life. I know there are more suited people to do this job, but I think I can also make some contribution somewhere (I hope so).
About myself:
Day before yesterday I resigned from TCS after working here since Dec, 2004. I will be joining a management institute soon and pursue a degree in management.
I have been preparing and giving CAT for last 4 years now. So I can claim to have experienced it all
. This journey has not been alone. Guidance from friends and mentors have helped me a lot and I intend to pass on the knowledge that I have. So it is a profitable proposition for you to read on
.

Sudhanshu

Don’t you think that spending one dedicated year for preparation is more beneficial, than doing preparation in parallel with Job?

Well, I dont think one should do that.
There are a lot of reasons to support this.
1) One can prepare dedicatedly along with job as well.
2) It is observed that MBA is best suited for people with an experience of 2-3 years and in almost all US/europe b-schools, prior experience is a must. So, by gaining experience you are increasing your chances of getting through.
3) I personally believe that preparation for these exams do not require more than 2 hours of study/day. What is required though is focus and consistency. So, if you are leaving a job offer for preparation you are essentially wasting rest of your time. But, if you are involved(full-time) in an organisation, say an NGO and are preparing simultaneously, then it is very usefull.
4) CAT is not just about aptitude, it also about what strategy you use, how you are managing your time. And we do use and hone these skills while we work. And in GD and PI, your work-ex makes a lot of difference.
5) By leaving a job offer, you have lost your backup.
